Elisabeth A. Edwards, MA, LMHC, LMFT
Hi and welcome to my page. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in the Gainesville area. I am also a Qualified Supervisor for both Registered Mental Health Interns and Registered Marriage and Family Interns with the State of Florida. I am a current Fellow of the American College of Advanced Psychotherapists.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Florida in 2001 and then went on to get my Master of Arts in Counseling at Reformed Theological Seminary in Oviedo, FL in 2004. The counseling program at RTS is based on psychodynamic theory and teaches deep soul healing. This started me on a journey of helping clients find connectedness and life in the healing process.
I specialize in the treatment of Trauma and Abuse, Grief and Loss, Eating Disorders, Adult ADHD, Adult Autism Spectrum, Burnout, and Religious Trauma. I believe that counseling should be a safe space. I utilize a client centered and client directed approach to therapy. I am often heard saying, “So much of trauma is rooted in a lack of control of one’s own story, and it’s very important that the client have control over how their story is processed in the counseling space”.
I use various techniques from Gestalt Therapy, Object Relations Theory, Attachment Theory, Systems Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (Sue Johnson), Existentialism, Cognitive Behavioral, Animal Assisted Psychotherapy, Experiential Therapies, and Creative Therapies into my work with clients.
I live in Gainesville, FL with my family and my three Italian Greyhounds, Conall, Jeannie, and Esme. I am happiest and most alive outside gardening, spending time with my horses, hiking, and just generally enjoying the wonder and beauty of the outdoors.
